It’s Ok To Be Basic

What are your BASICS for when business and life get out of control? It can happen so fast, and the next thing you know, you are mired in the mess and just barely keeping your head above water. So what do you do if your life and business are out of control? What are the bare minimum things you need to have in place in order to even begin gaining control again?

Well, first, you should realize this is normal. There are periods in our life when things get more intensive and heavy because of circumstances out of our control (or sometimes even when they are in our control). The best thing you can do for yourself is to set your MINIMUM BASICS for success now, while things are going well, rather than trying to figure it out while you're in crisis.

Here's an example of what I mean. These are my bare minimum basics that I need even when life or business gets out of hand:

  • ½ hour in the morning by myself to journal and clear my thinking.

  • Exercising for at least 30 minutes

  • Eating well

  • Prioritizing sleep

Why is this important to know? Because YOU are the key person in your business. You are the leader, the guide, and when things are out of control, you still need to show up for those who work for you, your clients, etc. People count on you, and you need to rely on you to take the best care of yourself so you can show up the best you can in every situation. Life has unexpected turns; I get it. But setting up this baseline helps you to know your focus and thus be able to eliminate activities and tasks from your day to ensure you can show up at your best.

Be proactive. Realize your importance in your business. Decide to show up as your best every day, even if that bar differs based on your circumstances. Give yourself grace and lean into your process.
